BASIC DIGITAL EDUCATION INITIATIVE (BDEI)
Equipping undeserved communities with essential digital literacy skills to participate in the digital economy

About the program
The Basic Digital Education Initiative (BDEI) is designed to expand equitable access to foundational digital and AI literacy for learners in schools and underserved communities across Nigeria. The initiative equips participants with essential skills such as basic computer use, productivity tools, safe internet practices, introductory AI literacy, and everyday digital confidence.
Through community‑based training, youth‑led learning models, and partnerships with schools and organizations, BDEI strengthens both access to digital education and long‑term adoption within formal and semi‑formal learning systems.
1To expand access to device & AI literacy for underserved youth
2To ensure standardized, consistent, and high-quality program delivery across BDEI implementation models
3To strengthen programme sustainability and community ownership
4To influence the adoption of a nationally relevant Basic Digital Education framework

Ilimi Kit
To address the challenge of limited internet access and broadband coverage in low-income communities, we designed the Ilimi Kit, a solar-powered, eco-friendly and sustainable technology kit, designed to offer a transformative learning experience to children. A prototype has been developed and tested through two user research sessions in primary and secondary schools in Lagos, Nigeria.
